Koh Libong is the largest island in the Trang province archipelago, yet it remains one of Thailand’s most authentic and "off-the-beaten-path" destinations. Unlike its more touristy neighbors, Libong is an eco-tourism haven famous for its vast seagrass meadows and as the last major refuge for the rare and gentle Dugong (sea cow).
The Sanctuary of the Dugongs
The primary reason nature lovers visit Koh Libong is to catch a glimpse of the Dugongs. The island is surrounded by extensive seagrass beds, which are the primary food source for these endangered marine mammals.

Dugong Watching: Visitors can take a local long-tail boat to specific "viewing spots" near the coast. Many also head to Point Dugong or the Libong Archipelago Wildlife Sanctuary to spot them from high vantage points.

Conservation: The local community is deeply committed to protecting these creatures, making the island a model for sustainable community-based tourism in Thailand.

The Local Way of Life
Koh Libong is home to a predominantly Muslim community that has lived on the island for generations.

Authenticity: There are no flashy shopping malls or wild nightlife hubs here. Instead, you will find small fishing villages, stilt houses over the water, and friendly locals who live a slow, peaceful life.

Cultural Experience: Exploring the island by motorbike or sidecar (Saleng) allows you to see local rubber plantations, coconut groves, and traditional fishing methods.

Natural Highlights and Attractions
Beyond the dugongs, the island’s geography is diverse and beautiful:

Stone Bridge (Saphan Hin): A natural rock formation that forms a bridge-like arch over the sea. It is a stunning spot for photography, especially during low tide.

Tung Yaka Beach: A quiet, golden-sand beach perfect for those who want total privacy. It is often completely empty, offering a "private island" feel.

Leuk Bay and Chu Hoi Cape: These areas are prime spots for birdwatching, especially during the migratory season when rare shorebirds stop over on the island.
