Pig Island (Koh Madsum)

 

Koh Madsum (often spelled Koh Matsum) is a hidden gem located just south of Koh Samui. Known widely as "Pig Island," it has transformed from a quiet, secluded spot into one of the most popular day-trip destinations in the region.

 

The Famous "Pig Island" Experience
The island’s most unique feature is its resident population of friendly wild pigs.

• How they got there : The story goes that a local bar owner, Mr. Kitt, rescued a few pigs from a market on the mainland and brought them to the island. They eventually multiplied, and now several generations of pigs roam the beach freely.
• Interaction : Visitors can feed, pet, and take photos with the pigs. They are generally very calm and accustomed to humans, often cooling off by wading into the shallow turquoise waters.
