The temples name derives from a legend that a tiger once lived in the nearby caves, where its paw prints can still be seen on the cave floors today. Founded as a center for meditation by the famous monk Luang Por Chamnean, the temple remains a peaceful sanctuary where monks live and practice Vipassana meditation amidst the limestone cliffs and lush jungle.
